Alessandro Piu's pre boardmasters training

What do you say about Boardmasters… how do you describe it..?

Well Boardmasters for me, is the only UK ASP event, with the cream of GB, Europe and the rest of world dropping in on the relatively ‘quiet’ fishing town. The athletes, the famous music stars and the hordes of surf enthusiasts and festival ravers turn up in the thousands plus the standard summer party goers (oh and the odd stag and hen do); basically sh*t gets hectic!!! And this year will be exactly the same, even with the draw of the Olympics (surfing might even be there soon but that’s another matter).

For Decarbonated Sports this is even more special, as we launched our Decarb Sports last year at the event and have been growing and spreading ever since, anyways less of our self-congratulations, this year will be just as epic! So if you see us around, remember it’s our anniversary (your round then :)).

The excitement around the WQS 6 Star event is starting to kick in, with rumours that Kolohe Andino (USA) is coming back again, if you haven’t seen this kid surf yet… you will be in awe! Also Jack Freestone (AUS) will be ripping as usual using Fistral’s waves like NASA’s Kennedys Space centre; these two guys have to be hot favourites.  Previous Winners Wiggolly Dantos (2010) and Romain Cloitre (2011) will be trying to regain the title. Team BG will be represented with a mixture of Youth and Experience; previous winner Russell Winter (won in 2002) and Oli Adams (Fistral local) and more Cornish talent in St Ives’ Jayce Robinson and Bude’s Reubyn Ash. And we have Decarbonated Ambassador Alessandro Piu (ITA) named the Spaghetti Man last year by the commentary team, is raring to shine! Ale has been training hard the last month in France and Spain, Ale also became Italian Champion this year so he’s hoping to carry on his good form! So we are buzzing!!! Go Ale Go!!

This year the Men’s Longboard is a three star event will be studded with GB talent, OK they won’t be adding to the medal table but these athlete should hopefully do us proud anyway. Ben Skindog Skinner will be hoping to put right last year’s disappointment, where he came 2nd even though he destroyed the quarter final with a perfect wave, which won him the European title! Other GB hopes are pinned on Zak Lawson, Ben Haworth and Decarbonated is represented by Devon’s Angus Murray, who fell short of his own expectations last year, but is hoping to do better this year, so keep an eye Angus too!

The Women’s Longboard is also a 3 star event with GB’s Candice O’Donnell and Decarbonated friends Davina Stickley and Helen Sherman! So good luck ladies!!! They will be facing tough competition from a plethora of other GB girls and several French athletes and Hawaii’s Kylie Nagy and Miku Uemura.  Jen Smith (USA) who was triumphant in last year’s event is not competing this year so its anyone’s to claim.

For those who can’t make it we’ll try and keep you updated via Facebook and Twitter!!! This year we also have music from Ed Sheeran, Dizzee, Delilah and Donavon!!!  This is gonna be epic!!! Surfing starts today with the Mens and Womens Longboard!
